Finally have spent some time in the last few weeks working on the boat and am starting to get some done! I have a bunch of photos so i will let them do the talking.  Also my beer and hour count is updated!

Decided to do a two part seat so when the boat is heeled and i am hiking its more comfortable.

Ian testing the seat

Back angle.

Front Angle

Rough Fit of cedar strip and top pieces.

Test fit was a success

Glued up.

Sanded Smooth

Yes this is a beer tap installed i mean why not?

Ian Snagging some of his homebrew from the tap.

Nick getting a drink.  Needless to say we didnt get much done this night.

Ground down the inside of the cedar strip side pieces.
.
Dusty as shit.

Learned my lesson from sanding cedar.  I left this thing on all night so i was able to breathe for the rest of the week.

Cockpit seat / side panels fitted and done.

Floor cut and fit.

Bow Sprit hole drilled.  Building a similar articulating setup to the PDX guys with a bit of my own twist using arched harken track and foam.  More on this in the next few weeks.

A few pics from Heineken High Preforamnce Dinghy Open.

Sailing day 1 over.  Free Heineken starts now.

Not hiking hard enough and getting a tan line from my Merica headband.

Nearing windward mark frigging two boat lengths behind Ben.

Ready for Deck!

The Stringers and floor supports are installed and the back two sections are sealed and i am now ready to start building the back deck.

Dry fitting everything

I used single stringers from floor to hull in order to add allot of forward aft strength to the boat.  This makes it much harder for the boat to flex along the rocker.

Sheer Clamp installed and seat modified a bit to make it more comfortable to hike.

I centerd the front two stringers to land behind the keel box figuring that's where the most pressure on the boat and having those stringers hit the back of the keel box directly will take pressure off the frame.  If they were offset it would cause the frame itself to take the pressure.

Lots of little items

So the build is not going as fast as i had hoped.  With summer here and lots of racing the i have gotten away from building.  Also taking the time to save up some money so i can order some more glass epoxy and carbon before i take the next step.  But i have installed allot of supports from my last update.  Built some stringers for the back two sections of the boat to stiffen up the cockpit and the bottom of the boat.  I brought the front two stringers to the back of the keel box to add support there.

Here are the added stringers to the back two sections.  I will be putting a 2" piece of ply on the top so it will be easier to glue the floor down.

Finally got F18 in place and cut the slot for the sprit.

Here is a photo of my issue with the concave bow.  My stem i think was cut at to steep on an angle.  Not much i can do about it now.  I might add some foam or filler to fix it some.  Or maybe just make it nice and fair.  I am not overly concerned with it.

Working on the Beer count and the boat a little.

So my friend nick was really disappointed in my Beer/Hour Ratio. He said if i pick him up he will help me with that.  Also i got some work done on the cabin and benches.

I told nick he had to do something that helped with the boat for his beer count to be official.  He sharpened Pencils.

He drank a solid 16 beers in 3 hours!  Between the two of us we drank 21 beers in 6 man hours.

Carson came by to help as well.

Amazingly enough the cabin top looks to be straight and solid.

I am going to put a 3.5" radius curve on the bench seats.  In order to get the ply to bend that sharply i had to put Kerf cuts in it (cut halfway thru)  Then once its mounted i will fill it with 406 and glass over it!

I also decided to put a small angle to the benches so when we are hiked out there will be a small flat spot to sit on.

Not as much progress as i had hoped.

I have been working slowly on the project adding small support pieces and figuring out other things.  I have been distracted getting the other boats ready to hit the water to race and went down to Charleston for Race week for a few days.

Cutting our support frames for deck and floor in the rear of the boat.

Here they are in place.

Stole the I Beam idea from another blog.  These are fun to make and are seriously strong and light!

Here is the boat as it sits now.  Bunks are just cut and being fit.  I beams are in.  A bunch of fiberglass is on its way and i should have all of the frames taped and start taping the support pieces soon.

Here is a winch i blasted and powdercoated for our J29.

Much better grip and looks!

This boat makes me wonder why i am building a sport boat when i could just take out a big fat loan and have one tomorrow!

41 vipers getting ready for CRW!

Frames are in!

Frames are in and where to begin!
Every frame went in from a mesurement from the stern.  Measure from the stern and mark each sheer with a straight edge between each sheer with level find and mark the bottom of the hull.  The only issue is had was Frame 53.5.  I had herd other peole having issues with this frame.  I left 1/2" extra on each side of the frame and i still had to pull the hull a long way in!  I would recommend leaving extra on frame 53.5 in order to keep a nice flow to the hull.

I used a spoon to create these fillets.  I like using a spoon i was able to change the diamiter of the fillet by the angle of the spoon.

Here it is all taped up with 15oz biax glass.
